This Balsamic Vinegar is the only one I will buy or use. It is straight from Italy and is perfect and delicious! Thick and amazing! You can use it right out of the bottle on salads, in marinades, on pasta, veggies, meats, etc. You can also make an amazing Balsamic Glaze to use on Bruschetta Toast. It works on anything where you want a thicker and slightly sweeter Balsamic texture, and taste. You can put it on just about everything! I have heard of people using it as a topper for ice cream.
Here is a super easy to make at home recipe for:
Balsamic Glaze (aka – balsamic reduction)
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
Instructions:
- Combine: In a small saucepan, pour in the balsamic vinegar and add the sugar or honey, if using. Stir to dissolve.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. You want small bubbles, not a rolling boil.
- Reduce: Let the vinegar simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes. It will start to thicken and reduce in volume.
- Check: The glaze is ready when it coats the back of a spoon and has a syrupy consistency. It will continue to thicken a bit as it cools.
- Cool: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the glaze cool completely. It will thicken further as it cools.
Optional Flavors:
- Add a sprig of rosemary or thyme while simmering for a subtle herby flavor.
- A clove of garlic, minced, can add a savory note.
- A pinch of red pepper flakes can add a touch of heat.
Tips:
- Be patient: Don’t rush the process. Low and slow is the key to a good glaze.
- Watch carefully: Keep an eye on the glaze as it reduces to prevent it from burning.
- Don’t over-reduce: The glaze will thicken as it cools. Remove it from the heat when it’s slightly thinner than your desired consistency.
- Store properly: Once cooled, store the balsamic glaze in an airtight container at room temperature. It will keep for several weeks.
