Do you have pierced ears? Most women and plenty of men do. I’ve got three in each ear myself, and every now and then one of those little holes gets irritated. Maybe it’s an allergy to the metal, maybe it’s dust or dirt, maybe it’s just a mystery. But whatever the cause, wow does it hurt! The pain can keep you from sleeping on that side. The pain can keep you from wearing an earring. It’s just not fun!

Here’s the part no one expects:

The secret remedy is… Orajel. Yes, the same tooth and gum gel you keep in the bathroom cabinet.

Here’s How I Discovered It

A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready for bed. I realized that the third earring hole on my right ear was swollen and sore.

I thought, “Great, I won’t be able to sleep on that side tonight! What can I do?”

I have tried rubbing alcohol and witch hazel in the past, but they never do anything. I sat there on the edge of my bed thinking,

“I need something to get the swelling down, but what?”, I said to Penny, our little orange tabby girl. She had no answers, just a cute blink.

I thought and thought about it and then remembered the tube of Orajel I had in my nightstand drawer from a bad wisdom tooth several months back.

“Hey, that gets rid of pain and swelling! It can’t hurt, right?”, I thought to myself.

I asked Alexa+, and she said to consult a doctor before doing anything like that. Well, that is not me. So, I tried it.

I put a tiny dab on each side of the swollen earring hole. I went about getting ready for bed. Before I knew it (about 5 minutes) the pain in my earlobe was gone, and the swelling was significantly down! I was amazed! And, I slept on my right side with no problem!!! The next morning the pain was slightly back. I put a tiny dab on both sides once again before putting an earring in, and it wss perfectly fine all day! A week later the same thing happened on the other ear. I did my crazy remedy, and voila…the pain and swelling were gone!

I love it when I discover a cure like this. A cure that was right there all along. A cure that hardly costs anything. A cure that works on more than one ailment!
