We’ve all experienced those minor health annoyances. A nagging headache, sore itchy throat, a stuffy nose, or an upset tummy. It doesn’t matter what season of the year. Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter: there is never a good time to be annoyed! Before reaching for over-the-counter meds that are riddled with side effects, consider trying some natural remedies. Mother Nature knows best after all and has given us effective solutions for common ailments. Don’t mess with Mother Nature!
1. Ginger for Nausea:
- Ginger has potent anti-inflammatory properties and can soothe an upset stomach.
- It has been used in Asia for nausea and diarrhea for more than 2,000 years.
- Try ginger tea, ginger ale, or chew on a small piece of fresh ginger. There are amazing ginger candies that are made with real ginger.
- As with any of these remedies, make sure that the ingredient is real and pure. Try not to add too much sugar. Sugar can cause more problems.

2. Peppermint for Headaches:
- Peppermint oil: when applied topically to the temples, can help relieve tension headaches.
- Peppermint tea can also ease nausea that sometimes accompanies headaches.
- Sucking on a hard mint candy can also be used. Just make sure it is made with 100% real mint.

3. Honey for Coughs and Sore Throats:
- Honey has antibacterial and soothing properties. A small spoonful of honey mixed in warm tea can help coat and soothe a sore throat and reduce coughing.
- Just a little goes a long way. A very small amount of honey should do the trick.
- Honey works much better diluted in tea or warm water. For some people straight honey can cause coughing. This usually doesn’t happen when it’s diluted.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar for Heartburn:
- While it may seem counterintuitive, a small amount of apple cider vinegar diluted in water can help neutralize stomach acid and ease heartburn.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in an 8 ounce glass of water. Drink it 15 minutes before each meal.
- Apple cider vinegar also helps with gut health, can regulate sugar levels, and promotes a feeling of fullness.
- Many believe drinking half a shot of apple cider vinegar before each meal can boost metabolism and aid in dieting.
- Make sure to buy apple cider vinegar with the mother. And shake it well before each use.

5. Garlic for Congestion:
- Garlic has natural decongestant properties. It helps relieve a stuffy nose and congested chest.
- Add garlic to your meals via fresh, dried or garlic powder.
- Or try adding 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder to a cup of tea. Add a little lemon juice to help the taste.

6. Chamomile for Insomnia:
- Chamomile Tea is well-known for its calming effects. A cup of chamomile tea before bed can promote relaxation and improve sleep.
- Let the tea bag steep in 8 ounces of hot water for 5 minutes. Drink it warm 45 minutes to an hour before bedtime.

7. Aloe Vera for Sunburns:
- Aloe Vera gel is a soothing remedy for sunburns.
- It helps cool the skin and reduce inflammation.
- I know what you are thinking. You might be saying, “Yeah right Janny! I’m going to carry an aloe plant around with me to the beach!” Nope, I don’t expect that. Instead, buy some natural aloe vera gel or high-quality coconut oil. Coconut oil works great for burns of all kinds. It is also anti-bacterial.

8. Turmeric for Inflammation:
- Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound.
- Add turmeric to your cooking .
- Or try Turmeric milk, also known as golden milk, which is a traditional Indian beverage that is made with turmeric, milk, and spices. It is often consumed as a health tonic and is said to have a number of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties.
Turmeric milk is typically made by simmering turmeric powder, milk, and spices such as ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper in a saucepan. The mixture is then strained and sweetened with honey or maple syrup. Turmeric milk can be consumed hot or cold.
Golden Milk Recipe
1 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon of ground black pepper
Honey or maple syrup to taste - Combine the milk, turmeric powder, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper in a saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat until it comes to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Strain the mixture into a mug.
- Add honey or maple syrup to taste.

9. Saltwater Gargle for Sore Throats:
- Gargling with warm salt water can help reduce inflammation and soothe a sore throat.
- Mix 1/2 teaspoon Kosher or sea salt to 8 oz of warm water. Gargle with the mixture until it is all gone. Do this three times a day if necessary.
- If you don’t mind the taste, dissolve an uncoated aspirin tablet on the back of your tongue. It can numb a sore throat. I use this method all the time.
10. Lavender for Anxiety:
- The aroma of lavender has calming effects.
- Lavender essential oil can be put in a diffuser or added to a warm bath to help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.
- Put a sachet of dried lavender in your pillow case to help you drift off to sleep.
